box-cutter

Carton-opening razor

A box-cutter is a small hand tool with a retractable razor blade, used for slicing open cardboard boxes and cutting packaging materials.

The blade extends from a handle and can be replaced when dull.

Box-cutters became associated with the September 11, 2001 attacks, when hijackers used them as weapons, leading to their prohibition on aircraft.
