bowstave

Unstrung bow material

A bowstave is a length of wood prepared for making a bow, or the wooden body of a bow itself.

Traditionally cut from yew, ash, or other springy woods, a bowstave is shaped and seasoned before being worked into a finished weapon: The fletcher selected a straight-grained bowstave from the stockpile.
