bottle-shock

Post-travel wine stupor

Bottle-shock is a temporary condition in wine caused by recent bottling or transportation, where the wine tastes muted, disjointed, or off.

The agitation disrupts the wine's chemistry, but it recovers after resting undisturbed for days or weeks: Give it time—it's just bottle-shock from shipping.

Also called bottle sickness.
