bot fly
Maggot-laying insect pest
A bot fly is a stout, hairy fly whose larvae are parasites of mammals.
The female deposits eggs on or near a host—often horses, cattle, deer, or rodents—and the larvae burrow into flesh or body cavities to develop.
One species targets humans, using mosquitoes to deliver eggs to skin.
The infestation is called myiasis.
