borne

Lifted and moved

Borne is the past participle of bear in most of its senses: carried, supported, endured, or produced.

The coffin was borne by six pallbearers.

She has borne the burden alone.

The tree has borne fruit for decades.

In compounds, borne indicates how something is transmitted: airborne, waterborne, mosquito-borne diseases.

For childbirth, borne applies when the mother is the subject with "by": children borne by her; otherwise born is standard: a child born in June.
