borings

Cores from drilling

Borings are the material removed by a drill or boring tool—the cylindrical waste produced when making holes in wood, metal, earth, or other substances.

Core samples and well borings provide geological information.

The word also serves as the plural of boring in its sense of a hole or tunnel made by drilling: test borings revealed bedrock at forty feet.
