boom mics
Overhead recording gear
Boom mics are microphones mounted on long poles, allowing sound technicians to capture audio while keeping the equipment out of the camera frame.
Standard in film and television production, they hover just above actors' heads during dialogue scenes: The boom mic dipped into the shot and ruined the take.
Singular: boom mic.
