bone bruise
Deep skeletal injury
A bone bruise is an injury to the bone beneath the surface, where blood and fluid accumulate from impact or stress without causing a full fracture.
It's more serious than a soft tissue bruise but less severe than a break: The MRI showed a bone bruise on her kneecap.
Recovery typically takes weeks to months, longer than ordinary bruises.
