bolt actions
Manual firearm cycling
Bolt actions are firearm mechanisms where the shooter manually operates a handle to open the breech, eject a spent cartridge, chamber a new round, and lock the action closed.
The system is slower than semi-automatic designs but valued for accuracy and reliability: Bolt actions dominate precision rifle shooting.
The term also describes rifles using this mechanism.
