body panel
Vehicle exterior section
A body panel is one of the shaped metal or composite sections that form the outer skin of a vehicle—fenders, doors, hoods, quarter panels.
The term appears most often in automotive repair contexts: The collision damaged three body panels.
Panels are designed to be replaceable, so technicians can swap a dented door rather than rebuild it.
