body counts
Fatalities after conflict
Body count is the number of people killed, originally in military contexts to measure casualties or enemy deaths in combat.
The term has expanded to include victims in mass shootings, serial killings, or action movies where the tally of deaths becomes a grim statistic.
In contemporary slang, body count refers to the number of sexual partners someone has had: What's your body count?
This newer sense carries judgment—people ask about it to assess promiscuity.
