blue shift
Wavelength compression indicator
Blue shift is the compression of light waves from an object moving toward the observer, shortening the wavelength toward the blue end of the spectrum.
The opposite of red shift.
Astronomers use blue shift to measure how fast celestial objects approach Earth: The galaxy's blue shift indicates it's on a collision course with the Milky Way.
