blister beetle
Skin-irritating bug
A blister beetle is any of various beetles that secrete cantharidin, a caustic substance that raises blisters on skin contact.
The dried bodies of certain species yield Spanish fly, historically used as an aphrodisiac and vesicant.
Blister beetles can poison livestock when crushed in hay: The horses died from blister beetle contamination.
