blackout poetry
Erasure creates verse
Blackout poetry is verse created by selectively obscuring words on an existing printed page—typically with black marker—leaving only certain words visible to form a new poem.
The technique transforms newspapers, book pages, or other texts into visual art where the blacked-out portions frame the remaining words: She made blackout poetry from old magazines.
Also called erasure poetry or redaction poetry.
