black suffrage
African-American voting rights
Black suffrage is the right of Black people to vote.
The term appears most often in discussions of American history, particularly the post–Civil War amendments and the long struggle against disenfranchisement that followed: The Fifteenth Amendment was supposed to guarantee black suffrage, but poll taxes and literacy tests undermined it for nearly a century.
