black pride
African-descent cultural celebration
Black pride is a sense of racial self-affirmation and cultural celebration among Black people, particularly African Americans.
The term emerged prominently during the civil rights era and Black Power movement of the 1960s, countering internalized racism and reclaiming dignity in the face of systemic oppression: Black pride wasn't about hating others—it was about loving ourselves.
Unlike white pride, which typically signals white supremacist ideology, black pride arose as a response to centuries of dehumanization rather than an assertion of dominance.
