black currant
Tart purple fruit
Black currant is a small, dark purple berry with a tart, intensely flavored taste, used in jams, juices, liqueurs, and pastries.
The shrub that produces these berries is also called a black currant.
The flavor is common in European foods and drinks but less familiar in North America, where cultivation was long restricted: black currant jam, crème de cassis is made from black currants.
