black cats
Superstitious crossing hazard
Black cats are domestic cats with entirely or predominantly black fur.
They figure prominently in superstition—considered bad luck in some cultures, good luck in others.
The association with witches and Halloween makes them symbolic of the spooky or ominous: A black cat crossed my path.
Some animal shelters report black cats are adopted less frequently due to lingering superstitions.
