belly-up
Completely financially failed
Belly-up describes something that has failed or gone bankrupt, from the image of a dead fish floating with its belly facing upward.
A business that goes belly-up has collapsed financially.
The phrase can also describe physical position—lying face-up—though the failure sense dominates: The startup went belly-up after six months.
