baseball pitcher
Delivers the fastball
A baseball pitcher is the player who throws the ball toward home plate for the batter to hit.
The pitcher stands on a raised mound in the center of the diamond and initiates each play.
Pitchers are classified by role—starters begin games and pitch multiple innings, while relievers enter later, with closers specializing in finishing close games.
A team's pitching staff is often considered its most critical asset.
