base load
Constant power requirement
Base load is the minimum level of electricity demand that a power grid must supply continuously, day and night.
Power plants that run constantly to meet this steady demand are called base load plants—typically nuclear, coal, or large hydroelectric facilities.
The term contrasts with peak load, the additional capacity needed during high-demand periods: Natural gas plants handle peaks, while nuclear provides base load.
