bargeboards
Roof edge boards
Bargeboards are the decorative boards attached along the sloping edges of a gable roof, covering and protecting the exposed roof timbers.
Victorian and Gothic Revival architecture often featured elaborately carved bargeboards with ornate scrollwork: The old farmhouse had wooden bargeboards painted to match the trim.
Also called vergeboards.
