ballboy
Sideline errand runner
A ballboy is a young person, typically male, stationed at the edges of a sports court or field to retrieve balls that go out of play and supply them quickly to players.
The role is most visible in tennis, where ballboys crouch at the net and baseline, and in soccer, where they line the pitch perimeter.
The term applies regardless of the person's actual gender, though ballgirl is also used.
The ballboy tossed a fresh ball to the server between points.
