baldric

Diagonal weapon belt

A baldric is a belt or sash worn diagonally across the chest from one shoulder to the opposite hip, typically used to support a sword, bugle, or other equipment.

The word appears most often in historical fiction and fantasy: The knight adjusted the baldric holding his scabbard.

In modern contexts, baldrics survive mainly in ceremonial military dress and marching band uniforms.
