back squat

Loaded standing descent

A back squat is a weightlifting exercise where a barbell rests across the upper back and shoulders while the lifter squats down and stands back up.

The "back" distinguishes it from a front squat, where the bar rests on the front of the shoulders.

It's a foundational strength exercise targeting the legs, glutes, and core: I hit a new PR on my back squat today.
