attorney-in-fact

Appointed decision maker

An attorney-in-fact is a person authorized to act on another's behalf in legal or financial matters, designated through a power of attorney document.

Unlike an attorney-at-law, an attorney-in-fact need not be a lawyer—the term simply means agent or representative: My sister serves as my attorney-in-fact while I'm overseas.
