attitude indicator
Artificial horizon instrument
An attitude indicator is a cockpit instrument that shows an aircraft's orientation relative to the horizon—whether the nose is pitched up or down, and whether the wings are level or banked.
Also called an artificial horizon.
The display typically shows a miniature aircraft symbol against a horizon line: The attitude indicator showed we were in a steep climb.
