arrow slits
Defensive wall openings
Arrow slits are narrow vertical openings in castle walls or fortifications, designed to allow defenders to shoot arrows or crossbow bolts while exposing minimal target area to attackers.
The opening typically widens inward to give the archer room to draw and aim.
Also called loopholes or embrasures.
Archers fired through the arrow slits at the advancing army.
