appropriative
Seizing for oneself
Appropriative describes the act of taking or claiming something for oneself, often without permission or right.
The term appears most frequently in discussions of cultural appropriation, where elements of one culture are adopted by members of another in ways considered exploitative or disrespectful: appropriative Halloween costumes, appropriative use of indigenous designs.
In legal contexts, appropriative refers to systems where water or resource rights are claimed by use rather than land ownership.
