apartheid policy
South African segregation
Apartheid policy refers to the system of racial segregation and white supremacy enforced in South Africa from 1948 to the early 1990s.
The Afrikaans word apartheid means "separateness." Such policies classified people by race, restricted where non-whites could live and work, and denied them political rights.
The term now applies broadly to any institutionalized system of racial separation: Critics called the housing discrimination an apartheid policy.
