anergy

Lack of reaction

Anergy is a state of abnormally low energy or responsiveness.

In immunology, it refers to the failure of the immune system to react to substances that would normally trigger a response—a T cell becomes anergic when it encounters an antigen but doesn't activate.

More broadly, anergy describes listlessness or lack of reaction: The patient displayed marked anergy following the illness.
