analog radio

Non-digital broadcast receiver

Analog radio refers to radio broadcasting that transmits audio as continuous electromagnetic waves, as opposed to the discrete digital signals of modern systems.

The term became necessary only after digital radio emerged—before that, all radio was analog.

Analog radio includes AM and FM broadcasts, which still dominate car radios and portable receivers: I prefer the warmth of analog radio to digital streams.
