tuning in
Adjusting the dial
Tuning in is the act of adjusting to receive a broadcast signal: I was tuning in to my favorite radio station when the power went out.
The phrase extends to paying attention or becoming aware: She finally tuned in to what her colleagues had been saying for months.
To tune in is to engage; to tune out is to disengage.
