airmobile

Flown into combat

Airmobile describes military units designed to be transported by helicopter into combat zones.

The term emerged from Vietnam-era tactics where troops deployed rapidly by air rather than ground vehicles: the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile).

An airmobile operation uses helicopters to move soldiers, equipment, and supplies directly to objectives.
