Windtalkers

Native American cryptographers

Windtalkers refers to Navajo Code Talkers—Native American servicemen who used their language as an unbreakable military code during World War II.

The Navajo language, with its complex tonal structure and lack of written form, proved impossible for enemies to decipher.

The term gained wider recognition from the 2002 film of the same name: The Windtalkers transmitted tactical messages across the Pacific theater.
