Weeks

Family name, perhaps

Weeks are seven-day cycles originating from ancient Babylonian astronomy, where each day was linked to a celestial body visible to the naked eye: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn.

The seven-day structure spread through Jewish, Roman, and Christian traditions, becoming a global standard.

In ISO calendars, weeks are numbered, with Week 1 starting on the Monday of the year’s first Thursday.

Some cultures, like the Soviet Union in the 1930s, experimented with alternative week lengths, but these failed to gain traction.

The ISO week starts on Monday and ends on Sunday.
