VD
Intimately transmitted illness
VD is an abbreviation for venereal disease—infections transmitted through sexual contact.
The term was standard medical vocabulary through most of the twentieth century but has largely been replaced by STD (sexually transmitted disease) or STI (sexually transmitted infection).
VD now sounds dated or euphemistic: He came back from the war with VD.
