droplet transmission
Sneeze-borne disease transfer
Droplet transmission is the spread of infection through respiratory droplets expelled when someone coughs, sneezes, or talks.
These droplets are relatively large and heavy, typically traveling only a few feet before falling to surfaces.
Masks reduce droplet transmission of respiratory viruses.
Distinguished from airborne transmission, where smaller particles remain suspended and travel farther.
