timberlines
Mountain tree limits
Timberlines are the elevational or latitudinal boundaries beyond which trees cannot grow, usually due to cold, wind, or thin soil.
Above the timberline on a mountain, you find only alpine meadows, rock, and snow.
We hiked past the timberline into bare tundra.
Also called tree lines.
