The Towering Inferno
Blazing highrise disaster
*The Towering Inferno* is a 1974 disaster film about a fire engulfing a San Francisco skyscraper, notable for pairing two major studios and two leading men—Steve McQueen and Paul Newman.
The title has become shorthand for any building fire of catastrophic scale, or more loosely, any situation spiraling dangerously out of control: The project became a towering inferno of missed deadlines and blame.
