The Perfect Storm
Worst-case weather confluence
A perfect storm is a rare combination of factors that together produce an unusually severe outcome—worse than any single factor would cause alone.
The phrase comes from meteorology, where separate weather systems can merge catastrophically, but now applies to any convergence of negative circumstances: It was a perfect storm of bad timing, understaffing, and equipment failure.
Often used to explain disasters or failures that resulted from multiple simultaneous problems rather than one clear cause.
