Night of the Living Dead

Romero's undead debut

Night of the Living Dead is a 1968 horror film directed by George Romero that established the modern zombie genre.

The movie depicts reanimated corpses attacking the living, setting conventions—slow-moving undead, boarding up windows, bites spreading infection—that countless films have since followed.

The title now serves as shorthand for any zombie apocalypse scenario or, more loosely, for situations where mindless masses overwhelm the living: The mall on Black Friday was like Night of the Living Dead.
