Táin Bó Cúailnge

Irish cattle epic

Táin Bó Cúailnge is an Irish epic, the central tale of the Ulster Cycle in early Irish literature.

The title translates as "The Cattle Raid of Cooley"—the story recounts Queen Medb's invasion of Ulster to seize a prized bull, opposed chiefly by the hero Cú Chulainn.

Often called Ireland's Iliad, it survives in medieval manuscripts but draws on older oral tradition.
