Still I Rise
Persistent despite oppression
"Still I Rise" is a 1978 poem by Maya Angelou, and the title of the collection containing it.
The phrase has become a declaration of resilience against oppression—the insistence that despite attempts to diminish, silence, or defeat someone, they will continue to rise.
It appears frequently as a motto or rallying cry: Still I rise. That's what I tell myself every morning.
