Steppenwolf

Asiatic wild dog

Steppenwolf is a rock band formed in 1967, known for "Born to Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride." The name comes from Hermann Hesse's 1927 novel about a man who sees himself as a "wolf of the steppes"—an outsider caught between his civilized and wild natures.

The German word literally means steppe wolf, a solitary predator of the Eurasian plains.
