Hound Dog

A hound dog is a dog bred for hunting, typically one that tracks prey by scent or sight.

The phrase is somewhat redundant—hound alone means the same thing—but appears in folk and country speech.

Elvis Presley's 1956 hit made hound dog an insult for a worthless or disloyal person: You ain't nothin' but a hound dog.
