St Martin

Dutch-French Caribbean

St Martin refers to two distinct figures and their associated places.

Martin of Tours (4th century) was a Roman soldier who famously cut his cloak to share with a beggar; he became patron saint of France, and his feast day (November 11) is Martinmas.

The name also designates a Caribbean island divided between France (Saint-Martin) and the Netherlands (Sint Maarten): We're flying into St Martin next week.
