Son of Sam
New York murderer
Son of Sam was the self-styled name of David Berkowitz, a serial killer who terrorized New York City in 1976–77, shooting couples in parked cars.
The name comes from a letter he sent to police claiming a neighbor's dog commanded him to kill.
Son of Sam laws, enacted afterward, prevent criminals from profiting by selling their stories.
