Slinky
Bouncy metal helix
Slinky is a brand name for a coiled spring toy that "walks" down stairs through a continuous tumbling motion, each coil transferring momentum to the next.
Invented in 1943, it became an iconic American toy: We watched the Slinky descend the entire staircase.
The name comes from the adjective meaning smooth and sinuous. (Lowercase slinky is an adjective meaning sleek or seductive.)
