Sam Walton

Sam Walton (1918–1992) was the American businessman who founded Walmart and Sam's Club, building the world's largest retail corporation.

His strategy of high volume, low prices, and rural expansion transformed American retail.

Walton became one of the richest people in the world, though he maintained a famously frugal lifestyle—driving an old pickup truck and avoiding displays of wealth.
